Wednesday, April 14, Herve Guichemerre, FARR Pomarez farmer since 2000, participated in a demonstration of the use of strip-till organized by the Chamber Agriculture Landes and FDCUMA (members FARRE 40).
This demonstration took place in Coudures on the organic farm of a young farmer under the Agriculture and Environment convention signed with the General Council.
For this demonstration, a cover of white clover was planted in corn in June 2009 during the last pass of the cultivator. It covered very well developed in spring 2010, was girobroyé, not to destroy but to brake. This will later cover the soil and thus constitute a barrier to weeds and a sensor of nitrogen. The corn is then planted in strip till then weeded so thermal 3-leaf stage.
Hervé Guichemerre, owner of the strip-till used for the test, took advantage of this demonstration to show his experience. For 10 years, Hervé do more plowing on his farm. By this technique, he sows his corn in the least disruption to the ground. What is the motto''''its mode of production. Moreover
with this tool, it works the same power over a large width, which allows it to move faster and therefore save fuel, another significant advantage for Hervé which seeks to minimize its fuel consumption . Hervé
also found that by creating an enabling environment in terms of temperature and humidity, the technique strip-till provides early germination of maize. Ultimately, this allows him to harvest a corn drier and realize once more savings during the drying of the crop. But the technique has other advantages. Thus, by loosening only the sowing line, it helps to limit and suppress the germination of weeds between the rows while creating a storage area in the water.
Finally, due to work only small strips of land between which a cover is maintained, the strip-till prevents leaching and soil erosion. In unpacking the ground without also return, this technique can leave the matter organic surface. This cycle can then continue its aerobic and turn into usable nitrogen for the plant.
A big thanks to Hervé Guichemerre for his involvement in the development of this environmentally friendly technology and communications experience from other farmers.
Following this demonstration, Herve has been asked for 2 more demonstrations: one on the Township and the other on GAREIN Township MORLAAS.

The strip-till what is it?
The term strip-till refers to both a technique imported from North America and the appropriate tool. This tool allows you to work on a variable depth of 5 to 25 cm strip of land 15 to 20 cm wide in which the seeds will be positioned later.
The principle relies on a tooth that can open and break the ground. On the tool Herve, this tooth is coupled to a fertilizer spreader to locate a starter fertilizer in the form of bone meal at 200 to 300 kg N / ha. The fertilizer is thus placed under the seed, which forced him to bury its roots deeper.
Following this tooth is placed a double disc package of embossed, to prepare the seedbed, and cylindrical roller to maintain a constant working depth.
